Rare live recording of a TLAB concert on Cornelia Street, NYC. Conceived by Canadian trumpeter Leif Arntzen, one continuous recording, no edits, no dubs. The concert was spontaneous, a commitment to the idea of "a happening" without notice of any kind, where all the music was completely inspired by the moment, the passersby, the night breeze, the fire escapes overlooking the stage, the spontaneous gathering on the street of people from all walks of life as the sounds of music emanated up and down the corridors of centuries old walkup tenement buildings and shops. Only hours before the generally quiet vibe of this one block long NYC street was interrupted by a cab or dweller coming home or heading out in the city confusion at either end of the block. The origins of the block is that hundreds of years ago when the Village was half farms and half village it was a shortcut trail to take a shortcut from Bleeker Street to 6th Avenue. Today it's still a shortcut to switch from heading downtown to head uptown. Once the music started, all that 24/7 purpose and traffic halted in suspension, the only transportation coming from the rhythms and the sound of Leif's horn ringing gorgeously through the air. People were drawn and held in the moment purely by instinct and their senses. There was no tickets, no line ups, no hype, no commerce, no advertisements, no pressure. Just music and people and the feeling of being together, randomly united, moving forward.
That's what a concert by TLAB is all about: spirits united, connecting and flowing through the cosmic, touching all, leaving none, embracing the heart and soul, patient, and total. Music needs flesh and blood, flesh and blood needs music.
